Strawberry Mousse Cake

In Denmark, it is tradition to have "lagkage" or a type of layer cake on your birthday. So with a few birthdays to celebrate this past weekend, I was inspired to make a layered Strawberry Mousse Cake. Generally I do not like baking and attempting something like this is definitely out of norm for me. But I am recently inspired to try my hand at food photography and I must admit, seeing as the cake was quite successful, shooting it was equally pleasing.

Skatepark, Rotterdam

One of the more interesting sites in Rotterdam, Netherlands, is the Skatepark occupying the midsection of Westblaak, a main thoroughfare in the city centre. The public skate facility opened in 2000 and includes 6700m2 comprising of 11 stainless steel obstacles for inline skating, skateboarding and BMX stunts. There is also a green area for relaxing and an on site restaurant.

The most important element of this park is the fact that it was the young skaters of the city who came up with the idea of the park. They also played a key role in the planning and design process of the facility by providing input and knowledge of their needs in such a space.

Canal Life on Ijburg

Due to a constant demand for housing in Amsterdam and because of a former lack of large, new locations for residential property available within the city boundaries, the Amsterdam City Council voted in 1996 to build on a series of eight artificial islands in the IJmeer. Construction of all 18,000 homes in this new district, IJburg, will be completed around 2015. IJburg will then be home to a total of about 45,000 people and bring 12,000 jobs into the area.

Housing in IJburg is very varied, including low-rise blocks of flats and terraced and detached houses. All sectors are catered for - from social rentals to mid-priced housing the higher-priced, owner-occupied dwellings. The area has also been planned as a self-contained district with its own shops, offices and schools. (Source)
