Woman in the Dunes

DSC_0042-2

Woman in the Dunes, a Japanese film made in 1964 by Hiroshi Teshigahara about a woman (Kyoko Kishida) who spends the night filling sacks with the sand that pours through cracks in the ceiling and walls, and hoisting them out of the pit the following morning.

Walking in the dunes I am reminded of this film and the clarity and cruelty of life.

Yup, how something simple as sand can resemble a human form - something else I really enjoyed about this landscape.
